Iceland became the smallest country ever to qualify for the World Cup after beating Kosovo 2-0 on Monday to ensure the islanders topped European qualifying Group I. Iceland's successful World Cup qualification comes less than 18 months after dumping England out of Euro 2016 to reach the quarterfinals before being beaten by France.
They automatically qualified from a tough group that included more established sides like Croatia, Turkey, Ukraine and Finland which makes their rise even more spectacular. Iceland are the smallest nation to arrive at Russia 2018. They have a population of just 330,000 people and only 20,000 registered footballers in the country.
Iceland will be sure to enjoy their first ever World Cup in Russia and they are currently on a high after securing only their second ever major tournament in their history following their historic display at Euro 2016 two years ago. Football Ticket Pad will have Iceland tickets available for a host of World Cup matches so keep an eye on here for the latest deals and ticket offers!
Heimir Hallgrimsson's side secured top spot in qualification with seven wins from their ten matches. Two stoppage time goals secured a dramatic 3-2 win over Finland on matchday two. A last-gasp winner against Croatia also proved pivotal and Iceland will be full of confidence as they look to record another memorable display in Russia. This Iceland side really do not know when they are beaten and could cause some further upsets at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
