Roma were a team founded in the early 19th century and by a merger arranged by the Fascist regime. Roma have participated in the top-tier of Italian football for all of their existence except for in the 1951–52 season, and last season finished second in Serie A. Roma have won the Serie A three times, less than most people may think, but they can claim an impressive nine Coppa Italia titles and two Supercoppa Italiana titles.

On the European front Roma won the Fairs Cup in 1960–61. They did come close to a European Cup victory in 1983–84, but lost out to Liverpool in the final. More recently they finished as runners up in the UEFA Cup Final in a two legged defeat against Inter Milan. Francesco Totti and Danielle De Rossi are Roma’s most famous players and both have been long term servants to the club. Considered as one of the best teams in Italy, Roma are probably the most likely contenders to prevent Juventus from achieving their fifth consecutive Serie A title.
