Road To Qatar World Cup 2022
Given that Qatar is the host of the World Cup 2022. This means that whichever nation is hosting the World Cup for that particular year - they are automatically guaranteed a place in the World Cup competition.
The announcement that Qatar will host this year’ World Cup tournament was on the 2nd December 2010. With a population of 2-million people, Qatar will be the first-ever Arabian state to host the World Cup.
Due to the intense heat throughout the summer in Qatar, it was agreed that the games take place from late November to mid-December. Making this tournament the first-ever World Cup to not take place between May, June or July. On top of the dates being moved, the number of days the tournament will finish has been reduced to roughly 28 days in order to compensate for potential increasing temperatures.
The current manager of the Qatar national team is Felix Sanchez, who has managed the Qatari national team since 2017. Leading the team to their first-ever AFC Asian Cup win in 2019. The team have a solid average age bracket, with a good blend of skilful talents in their respective positions to potentially provide the oppositions something to think about.
Of course, time will tell how Qatar perform in this years’ World Cup tournament, however, one thing is certain - the nation will without question be behind them in support.
The Qatar World Cup 2022 Stadiums
The Lusail Iconic Stadium:
The Lusail Iconic Stadium houses 86,000 fans and will serve to be the stadium in which the final of the 2022 World Cup will be held. The procurement process for the stadium conversion began in 2014.
As with all of the stadiums for this tournament, the Lusail Stadium will be cooled using solar power and have a zero carbon footprint.
The Khalifa International Stadium:
The Khalifa International Stadium (also known as The International Stadium) is a multi-purpose stadium that seats 50,000 fans from around the world. Situated in Doha, Qatar - this unbelievable stadium has seen its share of sporting events over the years, such as; the 2006 Asian Games, 2011 AFC Asian Cup games, 2021 FIFA Arab Cup and of course - This years’ FIFA World Cup tournament in Qatar.
In recent news, the Khalifa International Stadium has plans to grow from a 50,000 seat stadium to a 68+ thousand seat stadium.
Al Bayt Stadium:
The Al Bayt Stadium is an impressive 60,000 seat multi-seat sports stadium that houses a retractable roof. Due to the harsh weather conditions with Qatar’s summertime’s being extremely hot. This is largely the reason why the Al Bayt Stadium has a retractable roof.
Construction for the stadium was agreed in 2015, with plans to make each of the stadiums that will appear in the World Cup include solar power and to have a zero-carbon footprint.
Stadium 974:
Stadium 974 is a 40,000 seat stadium situated in Ras Abu Abourd, Doha. This stadium will serve as a temporary venue for the 2022 World Cup before being deconstructed shortly after the tournament ends.
Al Thumama Stadium:
The Al Thumama Stadium is one of the newer stadiums that will serve as one of the venues for the 2022 World Cup tournament. This 40,000 seat stadium opened on October the 22nd 2021. The stadium has also seen 6 games be played during the AFC Asian Cup, including the Semi-Final between Qatar and Algeria.
Education City Stadium:
The Education City Stadium houses 45,350 sports fans and was built in preparation for the Qatar World Cup. The stadium experienced its first piece of history by being the stadium to open the 2020-2021 Qatar Stars League season.
Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium:
The Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium hosts 44,740 seats and is primarily used for football matches, however, it can be used for various other sporting events. Originally built in 2003, the stadium used to have 21,282 seats but due to the World Cup - it was agreed that redevelopments were in order.
Al Janoub Stadium:
The Al Janoub Stadium is a 40,000 seat stadium that was inaugurated on the 16th May 2019. This stadium features a retractable roof also and will mark as one of the 8 stadiums that will host the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. This stadium also hosted the 2020 AFC Champions League Final.
