Road To Euro 2016

Turkey began their qualification campaign in disappointing fashion with a 3-0 defeat away to Iceland. Their poor form continued with a 2-1 defeat to the Czech Republic. Turkey then picked up their first point of the campaign with a 1-1 draw to Latvia, before taking all three points against Kazakhstan.
**Fatih Terim'**s Turkey then began to show signs of their quality and they were moments away from beating the Netherlands only for a stoppage time equaliser from Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, who cancelled out Burak Yilmaz' strike.
Turkey then picked up a narrow 1-0 victory over Kazakhstan after a late Arda Turan effort. However, late goals was also becoming Turkey's downfall as they dropped two points to draw with Latvia when they conceded in injury time.
Turkey then got their qualification hopes back on track and finihsed the qualifying campaign with three straight wins and three clean sheets. The most impressive being their 3-0 victory over Netherlands with goals coming from Oguzhan Ozyakup, Arda Turan and Burak Yilmaz. Turkey v Croatia

Spain v Turkey
Turkey had to watch Euro 2012 from afar after they failed to qualify but their last outing in 2008 saw them make the semi finals in dramatic fashion. Can they ignite the same spark as before? Head coach Fatih Terim was there then and is back at the helm for a third time. Turkey are very fortunate to be in the tournament at all. They relied on securing a win on the final day of qualifying and needed for Kazakhstan to beat Latvia. A tricky and talented winger he is Turkey's stand out player. If Turkey are to succeed at Euro 2016, Arda Turan will have to play a leading role.

Burak Yilmaz is well-known in Turkey having played for the 'big four' Galatasaray, Besiktas, Fernerbahce and Trabzonspor. He currently plays in China for Beijing Guoan and has an impressive goalscoring record at club and international level. He's pacy and direct which causes problems for the very best centre backs. One to watch out for
Selcuk Inan is the man to watch out for at Euro 2016 for Turkey. He's experienced, with a good engine in the middle of the park.
If Inan can link up to good effect with close friend and former Galatasaray team mate, Yilmaz, Turkey will be well on their way to making it at past the groups and could well be a thorn in the side of top teams. Inan has over 50 caps for his country and he will be looking to control the midfield by breaking up attacks and winning back possession.

Hakan Çalhanoğluplays his club football in Germany for Bayer Leverkusen and he is making a name for himself in the Bundesliga. Calhanoglu has also been impressing for the Turkish national side and at the age of 22, he certainly has a bright future. Calhanoglu is a dead-ball specialist and he can cause problems for many sides this summer from free-kicks and corners.
